Questions for the Scout Developers and Engineers

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I have several questions I am hoping to have answered if you're able to at this time in development.

1. Can I custom build my vehicle like back in the day where I can pick what features I want but not be tied behind a required package wall? An example would be; I want the upgraded infotainment system but in order to have it I have to have to have the adaptive cruise control system. Or say I want reinforced skid plates but don't want the $6.5k off-road package in order to get them.

2. Will there be an option for a vinyl floor with drain plugs for easy cleaning?

3. Will there be a composite cargo area option that also protects the back of the seats (referring to the Traveler) for added protection? Such as, if I have my dogs in the back or other items that would ruin fabric materials.

4. Will the rear seats in the Traveler be designed to where they can fold in a way to lie completely level with the cargo area for a larger level cargo area for optimum storage?

5. Will there be pre-wired auxillary hook ups for added external lights or winches?

6. Can I charge via an external charging source and charge with the onboard generator simultaneously for even quicker charging times?

7. If I upgrade the suspension and tires for more clearance will the software be capable of self-optimizing for optimum performance delivery?

8. As battery technology improves will the body on frame battery design allow for future proofing so that I can keep my vehicle for generations?

9. Can you guarantee that our driving performance will not be uploaded to a third party vendor for insurance companies to purchase so they can increase our rates like other companies are doing? I.E. Honda, Nissan, and Mazda.

FYI there is already a thread for this general topic. Lots of discussion points that may or may not offer you insight. Check the search button and type engineering and you’ll find lots of thread items. Just an FYI since you are new and may have missed it

As a general answer. Most of these questions can’t be answered at this time but maybe @Jamie@ScoutMotors can provide some insight if allowed. Several of your questions have been discussed on the other threads as I had already mentioned. Check those out and should help you get some feedback. BTW-welcome to the forum

Who would ever buy a vehicle that uploads driving performance to third parties? That should be a non-starter for literally everyone.
Actually I only named a few but pretty much all do it these days.... You should research and read the fine print when utilizing any of the manufacturer apps or features and even then some transfer the data over the air then sell it.

Sadly, this is common practice these days. And it hurts me (I interned doing internet/network security in college, and I've officially been jaded ever since).

Mozilla did a privacy review with the 25 most popular automotive brands in America. All 25 failed. 19 of those 25 sell your data (76%).

I suppose Scout Motors will never commit to not sharing our data, but I really hope they stick to aggregated and anonymized data rather than personally identifiable.
