Owners manual in advance of delivery

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I know I am jumping the gun here, but it would be very nice to be able to download a PDF copy of the owners manual prior to taking delivery. In my case, having driven a 2013 Wrangler for 12 years that doesn't have any of the new bells and whistles it would be very helpful. I am an EV novice for sure and Traveler specific information would be helpful to be able to get in advance. I think it would be great fun to come down and do a factory pick up, but never having driven an EV before it might be a bit of a challenge driving home 800 miles and figuring out charging and how the car works, etc. Still counting down the days to 2027. Today is 729 days to 1/1/27!

Some automakers let you download an owner's manual for free if you have a VIN number. That would be one way. The VIN will be known before you take delivery.

If Scout pulls off factory delivery like BMW does they will walk you through everything even down to syncing phone and setting mirror positions. Hoping the onsite trail/course is also used at delivery to demo many a new thing-like you I’m brand new to EV. Hoping just before we leave they let us charge it up so we also learn how that all works too.
And live elephants to wash my Traveler after dirtying it up on the course 😀

Honestly I don’t see the reason to require a VIN to download a manual. I test drove the INEOS Grenadier and came home and downloaded the PDF of the owners manual, printed it out and had it bound at Office Depot for $6.

VW probably doesn't want to give it away for free to anyone.

I think we are shooting ourselves in the foot by referring to the Scout as a VW product in any way, just giving more credence to the Dealers argument against D2C sales. These vehicles are Scout Motors products, not VW, they are just an investor, because if I have to go to a Dealer to get one with a 20K markup I will pass.

I never referred to it as a VW product. VW was brought up because they are one of the companies that requires you to supply a VIN number to download an owner's manual. I'm sure there are other manufacturers doing this that I'm not aware of because I don't own their cars.

Thank you for saying this. This is a Scout and they are already starting with a different business model. Just the fact that they are engaging with us on this level and taking our ideas into consideration is very heartening.

I took this to be in reference to Scout because the OP was asking about the Scout manual my bad!

As the OP all I was asking for is to be able to download the manual in advance. I saw the other day in the news 50,000 reservations. Now not everyone will convert and purchase but that’s a lot of cars and could be quite a wait for some of us. Even if they allowed us with reservation numbers to download the manual in advance of getting our VIN that would be awesome. I’m old school. I like a paper book in my hand I can read. And thanks for clarifying what some other brands do. I had no idea there were brands that made you put in your VIN to download a manual!

I would suspect the manual would be one of the last things they complete in the process. I’d be shocked if it’s ready prior to 2 months pre-production
