Long range Fuel Tanks

Many trucks, especially those that carry their spare under the chassis have an option for deleting the spare and putting in a long range fuel tank with an extra 40 something gallons of fuel. This is a company, that for example specializes in this - Long Range America. Won't be possible on this SUV, but probably would be possible for the Terra.

My concern with this is that 40 gallon tank would need to be below the battery housing and would be VERY low to the ground and very susceptible to damage that could be catastrophic if it leaked and caught fire.
That’s part of the reason the range extender is mounted above the rear axle.

As far as I understand the spare tire doesn't have any batteries between it and the chassis. So if it's gone, the fuel tank won't be hanging super low.
