Harvester towing

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I would strongly suggest the harvester model towing more than 5k. This is going to be a deal breaker for most people and cause a lot of cancelled reservations. My opinion but I would not have announced something like this without all the details
In place to make a firm stance. This has created a lot of confusion and speculation and as a result many cancelled reservations. I would like to see the Terra at least able
To tow 7500 at minimum and the traveler at 5000k minimum. It makes no sense for both the tow the same with one able
To tow nearly 3k more on the pure ev models. This is just my suggestion. Keeping the price within the mentioned amount during announcement I hope is possible to have the towing range increased ( 7500 for Terra 5000 for traveler) that’s my suggestion and opinion.

How do you know it caused a-lot of cancelations? only people that know that are Scott, and the rest of the team. Also No numbers are final yet, engineers are still hard at work.

This is based off numerous people who said this was a deal breaker both on this group and Facebook. I obviously cannot confirm 100 percent the follow through was there but is is concerning none the less.

They have over 75,000 reservations and 2 years to go. With R&D still in the process people need to wait and see. Instead of acting off of one video.
It was a suggestion I made which is what this group is about. I was simply making suggestions based off information presented.

Fairly, it was a STRONGLY suggested which implies a very aggressive
I’m not getting the Harvester so I don’t care either way but ultimately, maybe Scott Keogh should have just kept that tidbit to himself if final testing isn’t complete. Case of “the sky is falling” reactionary syndrome

Strongly actually is not “aggressive” it simply implies a “firm” suggestion. It would be aggressive if used in bold or use characters such as an exclamation point…etc. I would not read to much into that. I do believe however if information is not concrete it should not be shared with public.

I'll say, I certainly had a moment of pause when I heard Scott say that Harvester towing was 5k. My Grand Cherokee has a 7,200lb tow capacity and I use it to trailer my old Wrangler on it's car hauler. I've always been told that you should not tow more than 75% of max capacity for long distances for safety, controllability and to leave room for cargo weight, which leaves me at 5,400lbs. Stock, the curb weight of my Wrangler with 4.0 motor and hard top was about 3,200lbs. I no longer have the hard top or doors, so that maybe drops to 2,900lbs, but add in additional cage weight, HD bumpers & tire carrier, winch, heavier aftermarket springs, transmission, t-case and axles and I'm probably up to 3,500. Plus estimated 1,600lbs trailer and I'm over 5k.

So in my case since I specifically reserved the Traveler Harvester with the thought that I could make the EV SUV jump from my current V8 SUV, now I'm not so sure. Next time I'm trailering the Wrangler, I'll swing by some scales and see how it adds up.

My Wrangler weighs just about 4k and an aluminum trailer puts my total a bit over 5k. Even my V6 Grand Cherokee has a 6,000lb tow capacity. I was really hoping to replace the GC with an electric SUV that could tow my LJ to my wheeling spots. The range drop with pure electric won't allow that since I'm not adding an hour charge in to my drive every 100 miles. The Harvester was supposed to solve the range issue, but 5k pounds just replaces range with a capacity problem.

Projected tow rating for the Traveler is 7,500 lbs. and and Terra is 10,000 lbs.

Final numbers for all models, including the EREV/Harvester models, will be announced as we get closer to production. Our teams are still optimizing everything and final numbers are still fluid.

Thank you for replying to these threads. Bet you never imagined just one comment would receive this much attention

You and the team have obviously seen the feedback on the 5k number. Hopefully you all can find a way to get that number up some.

We would like to eventually tow a pebble flow camper with the traveler harvester model. Definitely need the 7000 pound towing capacity. A “heavy duty” model that can tow farther distances would be ideal.

BlueRidgeTraveler:

Agree!

I think the Pebble Flow is 6800 lbs loaded so 7,000 lbs and tongue weight of 10% would work. Unfortunately, with a Harvester we're told it's 5,000 lbs.

Lightship is even more at 8,300 lbs fully loaded. So, only Terra BEV could do it and then, maybe, if the self propelled versions of these two RVs are purchased for additional money, then the Terra could approach the 350 mile range, allegedly, before real world testing.

Then, you have to find a way to charge both the Terra and the RV while on a long road trip. The solar panels on either the Flow or Lightship just aren't enough while traveling.

Hopefully SM's Comes through or its RAM Charger with having to deal with dealership nonsense, etc.

Also, Its clear at least Jamie at ScoutMotors is paying attention and understands the concerns and how it may effect actual completion of reservations to orders.

More choices are coming that will eclipse SM's offerings if they don't adjust to the needs of those of us most interested in the very scenario you describe!

Cheers
