FNG, with no to little knowledge about EV's

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Because I know next to nothing about EV's and for the fact that everyone keeps comparing the Scout to the Rivian, I started looking into the Rivian. I've found that the Scout and the Rivian will only share the operating system (zonal architecture......I think that's what it's called). But it sure seems like Rivian is really really struggling. Lots of inventory and losing money on every vehicle they sell. Now I know it's a relatively new company, but it still gives me pause when considering another new company producing another EV.

It seems like most owner's state they "love" their Rivian and they will say that right after complaining about it. I've never owned an EV but I have driven a Model S, and a Model 3. I like the exterior of the Model S (hate the interior of both) and they both accelerated amazingly fast but other than that I wasn't impressed. The driving experience was very forgettable. My current garage contains sports cars and a bunch of off-roaders. I've recently gotten in to "overlanding" which is more like off road exploring for me, which is what attracted me to the Scout.

Its along was out before production so I'll keep my fingers crossed........just posting this to see if anyone else is in the same boat.

Welcome and good thoughts. I will try to sum it up that Scout is basically using Rivian's software and wiring "design" (my words) which is quite good and way better than VWs. The zonal architecture reduces the amount of wiring significantly. There are articles about the updated Rivians that have this new technology. The hardware like frames, battery, sheetmetal is all new or proven parts (i.e. something like window motors) from VW group.

Tesla wasn't profitable until 2020. Ford loses money on every EV it sells, too. It takes time and lots of investment. However, the same obstacles apply to starting any car company, whether gas or EV (see Mclaren). Rivian does have the advantage of Amazon's investment and now VW's. There's no guarantee Scout will succeed, but they are (currently) well-funded, have a skilled and experienced design team and a desirable product. I would bet on them over other EV startups.

But seriously - the launch of Scout Motors, from the outside, has been really well done.

The developing partnerships are very important, but it would all mean next to nothing if the design team had not absolutely knocked it out of the (expletive deleted) park - other than maybe giving us round headlights and a conventional sunroof/moonroof I would not change a thing.

Rivian's recent developments reducing wiring and parts-count for electronics is extremely important, especially for a company as hyper-focused on controlling costs as Scout seems to be from the very beginning listening to the CEO. Scout being able to borrow from that (appears to have been a very expensive lesson for Rivian) is priceless.

FWIW, prior to the Scout Motors reveal I was in no way interested EV's and was planning to either re-motor my existing JKU or maybe switch to a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk-Hemi when the time comes - after the reveal, and specifically because of the Harvester gas range extender option, I put a reservation down for a Traveler-Harvester.

I still have questions about how it will all come together, and what it will all cost spec'd out as I want, but I am actually interested/excited.

We think a like,,,,,I also would rather have round headlights and just a normal roof.

I have a Hemi Grand Cherokee that I've had new since 2016......absolutely love it. Also have a 392 Wrangler.....love it also. I also had no interest in EV's before the Scout.........and I'm still on the fence.
