Ditch the Wheel Arch Plastic

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Black plastic wheel arch’s are a bit played out in my option. I also feel they cheapen the look of a vehicle.

I’d personally like to see these removed. A smooth body wheel panel like the original is a much more on brand look.

New models of other brands are dropping the plastic arch’s.

Please do the same?

Having plastic arches allow for aftermarket wheel arches to swap out -similar to Bronco and Wrangler. If it’s all metal then people mod’ing would need to drill holes. Maybe they could make a smooth plastic version that gets painted body color

Very true but the Scout is not the Bronco or the Wrangler, never was. That’s the point.

I do find modern body cladding on “SUV’s” excessive. As I feel they almost rely on the perception that the plastic wheel arches imply off-roading prowess.

But, also, my jeep ZJ doesn’t have plastic cladding on the wheel arches, and that’s where the only body damage I have is. So I can appreciate the fact that they do actually have some use, and think what was shown in the concepts seems like a good compromise.

If it was an option to have them or not, I’m honestly not sure what I’d choose.

The plastic on the reveal vehicles is so minimal, I don’t mind it all. It just looks like the edge of a thick lining inside the wheel arch.

Scout suggested bigger wheels are possible and someone at the event was told 37s will be a option. My guess is that 37s might lose the plastic completely and 32s might come with a wider plastic wheel arch. Also as J Aylnn said above there might be various styling possibilities both, factory and aftermarket.

I agree-even though many here seem to be set on modding and off roading. Will be curious how much aftermarket products and mods will actually happen. I do think this is sized and built to accommodate those that overland but that’s such a small segment of buyers.

I have no problem with the minimal arches. This is supposed to be an off-road 4x4. If they want to go vanilla SUV, just ditch most of the design I guess - you don't need ground clearance (and the people who want them don't want to lift their feet up that high), you don't need 4x4, you don't need the front and rear angles - you basically want a completely different vehicle.

Now if you look at the arches on the Honda Element (at least as originally sold) - those in part kept me from purchasing one - that and they were dedicated 4 seat. Just a little too small for my taste. Even our Wrangler has more back seat space.

True. I also like a smooth or body color arch or flair. But, I know that Scout intends to be able to fit 37" tires without the fender liners. That said, I know many states require a flair that covers any exposed tire. Here in South Carolina we have no inspections of any kind and you can sling gravel, mud, torrents of water all over fellow drivers with your Carolina Squat all day long. 🤦‍♂️

So minimal I didn't even notice them.

I was just looking at Jeep Wrangler new 2025 color recently, and the front is a mass of black plastic, that it just ruined the color.
Agreed. It amazing how accents can impact the color of a vehicle. Electric lime green looks great (IMO) on the TRD PRO with some black/red accents. On the TRD Offroad (I think), not as impressive. This is a difficult balance to maintain.

I think that is very true. I had originally planned for a Bronco heritage because of white accents but I didn’t personally like the look when it came out because of all the other black trim elements. I think it becomes a very personal view. I see other vehicles with the top roof edge in white or contract and I like most of those so not sure what it does to people’s outlook but it definitely is personal

Leave them.

For those who don’t live in a snow landscape (though it’s seasonably warm this year) or on a gravel road won’t appreciate this. This is usually the first spot to get stone chipped (underside first) and salt eats this area for breakfast.

It looks great IMHO anyways but each to their own. There’s always a sawzall fix for those that don’t want it 😜
