Pretty plain 800, former chase car for a rancher's motor home
Tell us about your Scout:
I owned a Scout that I had bought 47 years ago but it was hiding in the garage and needed lots of work. And I hankered to drive a Scout again so started looking for a daily driver. I saw one on eBay several times in about an 18 month period. It looked too good for this to be happening, so curiosity got me to write the seller and ask why. His answers made sense, and we started talking about the Scout, he was a master mechanic and had gone through all the mechanicals and brought everything up to "like new". He asked questions about Scouts, sent pictures of details he wanted to know more about, etc. He had wanted it to be his daily driver but had an injury which made driving the Scout too painful. I had found a knowledgeable honest seller who cared about the vehicle. We made a quick deal and it arrived a week later at 4AM on a carrier.
We planned this Scout to be a daily driver, but the first time I took it to Nationals I learned that it is one of the best preserved '66 800s. It took the Ornas Award the next year. So now I had second thoughts about it's daily driver status (and also second thoughts about reviving the one in the garage). It is incredible to me that it had gone through four previous owners and still retained it's freshness to qualify for the Ornas Award.
Of course it goes to many truck and car shows and a few parades; but while it isn't a daily driver we do take it to special events or just for fun drives in the mountains. It no longer does off road.
The two attached images show my 800 high and low in Massachusetts. The mountain view is just a few feet shy of the summit of Mt. Greylock, the highest point in Mass. and the ocean view is a few feet above the North Atlantic at Race Point, in Provincetown, Mass.
