What Are You Driving Now?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

It might be interesting to see what the mix of folks here are currently driving. I feel like the Scout is going to draw from a wide range of folks.

Here is what I drive depending on the mood.

2021 VD ID.4 1st Edition (BEV)
2004 VW R32

My wife has a 2018 grand cherokee and I drive my '78 Traveler every chance I get. I travel for work or work from home so it has worked out, hoping to hold out till the Scout is released to have to buy another form of transportation. I previously had an 02 TJ, a 2015 GMC Canyon, 2003 GMC Yukon and 2000 Jeep Cherokee.

VW family guy here.

2019 VW Atlas 4Motion - family car
2008 VW Touareg V8 - Tow vehicle for our 32’ travel trailer
2007 VW Touareg VR6 - my daily driver for past 13 years

Both Touaregs run oversized BFG KO2 tires and both see dirt and sand.

Holy cow that trailer setup looks crazy! How's that feel going down the road?

Te setup works really well as the trailer is an ultralight and the loaded weight is only 7,500 lbs (in round numbers) at the scales. I don’t know how times goes so fast but between this and the trailer before it, we have been towing with either this Touareg or the VR6 before for 10 years now…(we got the V8 Touareg in 13’ as my wife took my VR6 Touareg after we got married in 2010 and that is what it took to get it back as I got tired of driving the little Jetta TDI I got her—was too low to the ground).

Have been in winds, horrible rough roads, and even been braked checked a few times by people looking for trouble, but the Touareg is sort of a mystery machine and does amazing-really no other way to put it…it is a dream setup.

That's great to hear. We have a 16RD we tow with the JLUR and I'm always worried our wheelbase is too short and it'll get squirrely. So far so good, but I'd be worried about anything more than like 19 with the wheelbase.
