What a Scout Traveler would replace

We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

I currently own a 2017 Land Rover Discovery HSE Td6. It replaced a 2010 Volkswagen Touareg TDI. Diesel torque, diesel range, off-road chops, on-road comfort. Both of these vehicles, while not having a stellar reputation for reliability, are/were rock-solid for me. My VW was the most reliable vehicle I owned - nearly flawless - until I bought my Disco. I lost $1500+ on an extended warranty with my Disco because I never used it. There is currently nothing available that I would replace it with - if it got totaled, maybe a Defender 110 P400 X...but maybe not.

Our Disco is our family Sherpa. I added Lucky8 rock sliders and front bash plate, 18 inch Compomotive wheels with 70-series 33 inch tires, and with its air suspension, low range, and locking center diff, and terrain modes it clears everything - 13" of clearance and 33"+ of wading. Yankee Boy Basin / Ouray / Alpine Loop, Wyoming Backcountry routes, New Mexico desert, Medano Pass sand...no problems. It's even shamed some Jeeps and it goes where my buddy's Raptor couldn't (too wide). On road, it's a magic carpet ride. The leather seats are elephant-hide thick and just as tough, and quite nearly as comfortable as my wife's Volvo. Legroom for days in the 2nd row and no hump in the middle. OTA updates, Android Auto, Meridian audio and it cleans up nice as an executive cruiser.

Huge double sunroof with shades, fold-flat seats and plenty of elbow room for two adults to sleep in the back. With the air suspension I can level it on most surfaces. Swallows cargo. Full sized spare. Visibility and driving position are ideal - I can see everything, everywhere.

I love the look of Rivian, and Long Way Up proved they are the real deal. But you can't take a few cans of electrons with you when you're offroading, and public chargers are unreliable and frequently broken. Even they needed a tow charge....

I do have a Polestar 2 LRDM as my daily driver, and I'm quite comfortable understanding electric range and performance. I love the torque and would love to have that off-road - especially at 12,000 feet, when even my turbodiesel gets a bit sluggish and needs to be kept up on plane to be responsive.

I will say that the Android Automotive OS system (not Android Auto...different thing) is superior to any other built in auto infotainment OS - PLEASE consider this for the Scout. Throw in CarPlay to keep Apple people happy. DO NOT charge subscription fees for these...I'll cancel my order.

I have a deposit in on a Traveler REx...here's hoping the torque and horsepower specs are the same, with the same dual motor setup as the BEV.

And finally ... Rivian has a delivery center here in Colorado Springs...we aren't Denver-sized, but we buy a lot of trucks and SUVs here, and we use them...they aren't mall crawlers. Open a center here!

Looking forward to seeing these in the flesh. Come on out here and you can benchmark against my Disco and all the modded 4Runners, Broncos, and Defenders.

UPDATE: Ineos Grenadier....not interested. I drove one and it sucked.

My wife asked me that question. I really don't buy vehicles often, I buy vehicles I want, I don't like to part with them for pennies on the dollar. I may never forgive my wife for FORCING me to sell my F150 when I got my F250. I really miss it sometimes (like when my wife borrows my F250 to tow and I need to tow the same day).

F250. I need it for heavy towing (it can not be replaced by either Scout) - but honestly for the daily driving I use it for, I guess I would put more mileage on either Scout.

Tacoma - it is a mud buggy for the ranch. Either Scout does not replace this role, they are heavy. When the ground is saturated, when I fear to drive the F250 in a field (both due to the very likely chance of getting stuck (even with 4x4 and lockers), and not wanting the DEEP ruts).

LJ - ok, the Scout could replace it maybe. The LJ is better offroad, and is virtually a classic - not letting go. It is my toy.

JLURD - modern classic, will never sell. Traveler could replace it, if it ever gets totaled (because that is the only way it is leaving my fleet). I love that diesel.

Minivan - Traveler could almost replace it, but 8 passengers, great for long road trips, plus it is so depreciated we would be giving it away. Nope, keeping it.

That leaves 3. Wife's Mustang. Son wants it for college, so nope (other than that, it is the least used vehicle we own).

Saturn, other son will probably never give it back. Great beater. It is been in the family since before he was born - he is attached to it. He is about 25. It has over 350k miles on it.

I really like my Golf TDI. Also great for my road trips without the family. It was my commuter car. It would be hard for me to part with, but by the time the Scout actually gets produced, I will have 2 more kids over 16. I suspect it will be kept, at least till one of them totals it.

So the Scout replaces NONE, but could easily become my daily driver. I should mention, by the time the Scout comes out, even my newest other vehicle will be over 10 years old, the LJ over 20, Mustang 20, the minivan and Tacoma 25ish, and that poor Saturn will be 28. The only vehicle I "need" is the F250, but the only way I am giving up any of the others is if they are totaled, or I give them to a kid.

Our situation is much simpler :). We have a 2023 F150 Lightning which we love and plan to keep until it falls apart and a 2023 Tesla Model Y Performance that's built like all Teslas, very shoddy. I was planning on getting rid of the Tesla either next year or 2026 for a Rivian, but I'll wait for the Scout now. I work from home so I put very few miles on it. Only 8,000 and it will be 2 years old February 2025.
 
The Traveler + Harvester option will replace my 2022 Bronco Raptor....IF it's as awesome as it seems like it could be and the price doesn't pull a Cybertruck trick. I absolutely adore my Bronco Raptor and it's capabilities, so for me the Traveler has a high bar to beat.

The Scout will replace my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Jeep has really disappointed with their pricing and what you get for that price. A 2025 Jeep Wrangler has the same Pentastar V6 that my 2013 has in it, crazy they've kept that engine so long. I love my Jeep and it still looks and drives great, but weird problems are starting to crop up. Hoping it will get me through to 2027, but I may need an interim vehicle if I can't resolve the issues I'm having. I'm really looking forward to the Scout upgrade!

Our Scout EV will join my three legacy Scouts in showing off the continuing heritage. My wife's RAV4 Hybrid will be 10 years old when the new Scout arrives, so it will be ready for retirement. Despite living in the salty roads of the Northeast it is still sound and I expect will remain so for the next two years while we wait.
 
I was considering trading in my current 2022 Genesis GV70 Sport Prestige for the refreshed 2026 model as I really love this vehicle and the brand and compared to the competition, it’s the perfect crossover SUV. But when I saw the Scout Traveler revealed, I instantly fell in love and made a reservation instantly. It is the perfect sized EV SUV that I have been dreaming of. This Scout would definitely get me to buy an EV. I also have a reservation for the Rivian R2 but after seeing the Scout Traveler, I think I am going to cancel that reservation. The Traveler as revealed just makes the Rivian look basic and the Tesla look like a piece of tofu.

Not a fan of the 25’s we saw while getting the GV80 serviced, they even had the new GV80 coup
