tonneau cover standard?

Will the Terra have Tonneau Cover as a standard option? It doesn't have to be an motorized like Rivian or CyberTruck. Something along the lines of Santa Cruz would be fine.

I feel like that would drastically help with the air flow and making it a much more efficient EV.

Also if you would want to add a bed storage for the BEV version, i wouldn't mind.

I’ve seen tests on EV trucks with and without the tonneau and the impact on efficiency is minimal. Of course every vehicles airflow is unique but doubt it would make much difference on the Terra.

And I would recommend non motorized. One less thing to break down. Just ask Rivian R1T owners.

I’m fairly certain Myth Busters did an episode testing something like this way back in the day. Might have been tailgate and no tailgate or something like that - anyway, from what I recall the difference was nearly negligible. I wonder if that’d be the case here?

Nevertheless, I would love a cover and would also vote for it to be simple and non-motorized because not only do I not want to pay for a fancy one, I also don’t want to roll the dice with whether or not it’ll be reliable.

In my mind the cover doesn’t need to be standard because some people won’t want it, but it does need to be affordable and reliable (I’m in and out of my bed a LOT).

I am a launch edition 2022 R1T owner with a working Tonneau cover, but there was a fix released for those that have had Tonneau's that fail... Basically requires taking apart the bed of the truck though, and updates are being done as issues happen under warranty. For now, mine is still going with about 40K miles on it.

I live in MN, so I'll need one for the snow. Factory is usually best, but so long as they are available... meaning the specs are out there for after market... I'll get one no matter what.

I don’t know I need one standard, but would prefer a couple OE options that can be added.

On one hand, part of me thinks I would use the Frunk more for those items I need weather protected.
Something I want to get away from in my truck is the tool box. Tools usually get borrowed and never return anyway 🤣. My main reason is it takes up so much bed space. I was hopeful for some storage compartments within the bed to store some basic straps, etc. Not yet owning an EV I commonly forget about how useful the frunk can be. I'm wondering if a few compartments within the frunk could help satisfy this?

One thing I do want to add regarding roll-away tonneau cover, which I think Scout should DEFINITELY offer, is that it should also have a track /rail t-slot system for mounting additional accessories. Retrax system. This is especially critical for off-road and camping scenarios. I have a ladder rack system for hauling my kayaks, for instance. Another for my tent platform. I've seen others with attachment points for all sorts of gear. But the ability to shut/lock the tonneau with additional organization and storage options above is great. https://realtruck.com/b/retrax

I feel like there is definitely a sweet spot for Scout here... Rivian has already re-designed their automated cover, and while my original version is still working flawlessly after ~40K miles, I know others have had their original tonneau's replaced with the new redesigned version, under warranty. The mechanical aspect is nice, but adds more stuff that can break and adds $$$. Keeping service and warranty requests low will definitely help Scout.

My preference would be a rugged, hard tonneau (definitely preferred over a soft cover), and having one that is seamlessly integrated and flush with the bed rails could also make it more aerodynamic. The sweet spot would be something like the realtruck cover listed above, but perfectly flush with the bedrail (like Rivians), integrated into the Scout bed rail "slots" but with no motor (it could roll away manually and easily). That is a pretty nice design that seems to be fairly compact, but also TOUGH and help keep costs down. My second choice would be having panels that slide into and out of the rails.

I use the storage compartment under the rear seat for exactly this, and keep the frunk pretty free from clutter for luggage, groceries, etc. I have straps, some tools, a trailer hitch and some cleaning supplies all under the rear seat in the R1T, and if I remember correctly, the Scout will have similar storage space under the rear seats(?)

I'd like to see a power tonneau cover, like my R1T. I went the first year without one, it was fine - unless I took it camping, it's a nice layer of security having the power tonneau cover roll back and close at the push of a button. Rivian messed this up big time, had to re-design and I finally got my new one installed. I had the manual tonneau cover while I awaited the fix of the automatic one. The manual one was a pain in the butt. I think Scout should make this an option, and if they do - power/automatic is the way to go to directly compete with the Cybertruck and Rivian R1T.

The lack of Canopy is what keeps me from wanting a Terra, I wouldn’t have a pick up now if my bed wasn’t dry and secure. If I knew there would be plans for a canopy I’d change my reservation from Traveler to Terra in a heart beat

I would agree that once you have power, it is a pretty nice option. I have a '22 Launch Edition and my powered tonneau is still working - even after 3 fall seasons with leaves and pine needles and crap + winters with snow and ice. One thing I never do though is 100% retract it. I always leave a little bit sticking out (primarily b/c I was concerned that it could get jammed-up). I also spray a little CS3 in the grooves for the tonneau when I wash the truck... Seems to obvious to try to keep things slippy and clean for the cover.

That said, something manual with slats that can be easily stored when not in use would not be a deal breaker at all.
