The future of electric vehicles

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Quick question. With the government's anti-electric vehicle stance, will the development and roll-out of these vehicles be affected in any way? I am looking forward to driving my new electric scout, but I feel there may either be a delay or possible cut back in production if there is no support from the government, even going as far to say a negative view of the electric vehicle industry from those in the present administration.

I don't see any "anti" electric vehicle. Just talk of removing some of the mandates and incentives.

I want a Scout because I want it, not because ~10% of the price might be offset by a government subsidy. While every dollar helps, I'm excited for what they're building, regardless of any requirement.

That’s pretty much how I feel too. I’d take a 10% discount happily, but ultimately it’s the product I’m interested in.

The removal of the rebate might help some folks consider EVs more honestly from a technical and financial standpoint. We all need to sober up a little and not mix politics with power trains.

I’m in regardless of incentives. Incentivized adoption eventually has to end, and Scout seems to be pricing at the right entry point.

That would be a wild world lol, people mix politics with everything now.

EV's have angered a lot of the public because they have been put on a gilded pedestal. First they were avoiding road use tax, then they got Federal and often State credits. Plus none of that counts for the millions of government money going into charging infrastructure.

At some point they will need to stand on their own. But at least for now, perhaps we can stop the hemorrhage on obvious wastes of money like putting in charging systems that are broken the majority of the time (because the idiots in office did not put any up time requirements in the bills that gave out money like candy). The only thing worse than that was how Texas decided to put their money in a system that costs 3x as much, and then does not even use the new standard charging system - just because of Tesla hate. Oh the system will get NACS, but that will make it 4x as expensive instead of just 3x.

Who is “a lot of the public” besides an ad hoc statistic? There’s what the Pew Research Center said in June 2024…

That’s not really bleeding-edge current. Frankly, the taxpayer money that Trump plans to pay Elon Musk each day for poking his nose in business he isn’t qualified to look at could probably pay for a bank of charging stations in a few state rest stops. I’d rather have charging stations.

EVs already stand well on their own merits. The incentives and such - the "gilded pedestal" as you call it - only exists temporarily because the fossil and legacy auto industry is being propped up by even larger subsidies and incentives. The EV rebates are there to help level the playing field against unfair business practices and lobbying from legacy auto brands that would rather fight EV adoption and litigate than actually invest and adapt to the new business environment. But sure, since we're removing subsidies why not remove all the oil and gas subsidies and automaker tax breaks etc. and let all of those companies stand on their own two feet? Let's see what happens?

I do echo some posts here. I would like to add some levity, if I may. I liken the Scout (as is) to my purchase of (2) Porsche Taycans. I loved the styling and performance, plus it has 4 doors. I just liked the car, and it just happened to be an EV. The incentive(s) were not "needle movers" in my case. The Scout IMO scratches the same itch. It is nostalgic, with great styling queues and should be a great vehicle. The EV aspect this time around for me is a bonus. Incentive or not.
