Terra Rear Bumper Step

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Looking through the suggestions I could not find one in the suggestions box for this request, but this https://scoutmotors.community.forum/threads/terra-rear-bumper.1055/ was in the Terra discussion. Adding here for the voting aspect.

In the current design of the Terra, the rear bumper has no way to step on it to get into the bed. This should be changed to have a flat top and/or a step in the corners of the rear bumper itself so that you can step on it and then into the bed of the truck. With this being a full sized bed truck, the ability to get in and out of the bed is greatly reduced if there is no flat portion on the bumper to stand on to get into the bed.

Personally, I believe that the foot wells that have been integrated into the body at the front of the bed should exist in the bumper as well, along with a flat top bumper for standing on. This would allow you to have a good foothold while getting in the bed with the tailgate up or down and have a very secure way of doing so. This would be similar to the corner step that exist on 'newer' GM vehicles https://gmauthority.com/blog/wp-con...t-2018-Wyoming-012-CornerStep-rear-bumper.jpg

This could all be done with the Scout design framework by utilizing the same foot well design as in the middle of the Terra in the bumper, and having the top of the bumper follow the contour line that goes from the front bumper, through the entire body, to the back bumper, and rather than the back bumper angling the same as the front bumper on the top, keeping parallel with the bed of the truck. This could be changed by the design team of course, but that contour line exists through the entire vehicle and keeping it going with the bumper to use as a step looks like it would make a lot of sense from the design prospective as well.

A lot of truck manufacturers have put ladders in their tail gates. I really don't like these. My truck does not have a step in the bumper corner, but I did add an AMP Research drop down corner step - probably the best modification I have ever done to a vehicle. Now in all fairness, perhaps it is not as necessary on the Terra - I don't think the bed height of the Terra will be so extreme that you would need a step to get up to the bumper. I think a bumper corner step might be enough - but for my current truck, having a step that drops down half way between the ground and the top of the bumper is very handy. Plus being on the corner allows it to be used with both the tailgate up or down.
