Terra Offroad Package Not Tied to 35 in Tires

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hey all, I'm new to the forum and don't think I saw this mentioned anywhere yet.

Obviously things like details of package upgrades are pretty far down the line from now but I expect there'll be an offroading package of some sort to purchase. I'm really interested in that but was a bit disappointed when SM talked about the 35" spare tire for the Terra not being able to fit underneath the truck and plan to mount it in the bed instead. A number of offroad packages I've seen available today have tire upgrades included but if it's going to completely change the way things in the vehicle are placed I'd be much more hesitant to get it.

I'm a single car household currently so I'm planning on using this vehicle as a daily driver in addition to offroading and I don't really want to have a spare tire in my bed 24/7. There's also practical reasons like space considerations in the bed and fuel economy (Idk the EV equivalent term). An external spare tire carrier I've seen other threads discuss or a bigger underbody tire storage space would solve the bed space problem but honestly I'd prefer to keep the 33" tires as long as I can get the rest of the offroad upgrades, ~10" of ground clearance is still likely enough for what I want to do with the vehicle.

TL;DR
Don't make tire size upgrades a forced choice in the offroad upgrade package. Let me know what you guys think!

Personally, I’m looking for the largest tire package they’ll offer so I know something will have to give. Even if they only offer 35s as the largest tire, I’m guessing I’ll be looking to go bigger so I hope the engineering will easily allow that. I know I can’t have my cake and eat it too, so I’ll be stuck with my spare in the bed most likely which I’m not a huge fan of either.

Anyway, I get what you’re saying and I could be on board with not tying off road options specifically to tire size - it would be great to have options and help everyone get what they’re looking for. I like the idea of a la carte building when ordering a Scout, I just don’t know how far they could realistically take that and still keep costs down. I suppose it could even work out for me as well because then I could still get the off road options I want, not pay for an expensive tire/wheel package, and then get 37, 38, or 39 inch tires (depending on how the rest of the vehicle, ground clearance, wheel well clearance, etc. all shakes out in the end) after purchase for example.

Also, welcome to the forum!! Be sure to search around - there’s a TON of good information and discussions around here from the last couple of years. I’m finding new tidbits every day.

I definitely get that the more SM accommodates personalization there'll be an increase in total production times, but I do feel like this is a much more achievable individual/separate option than something like the sway bar disconnect or front diff lock (I'm no process engineer obviously though).

Maybe this will all be moot point for me because I'm planning on getting the harvester option and from where they're putting it in the Traveler it might take up the space where the regular spare tire on the Terra is depending on the size of the generator...

Can't do much about that now though, there's just not info on it now. That's definitely a wait and see kind of thing for SM to figure out.
