Spare Tire in Frunk

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Can you design Traveler so that the frunk can store a 35” spare in it please. It would be super nice to be able to carry it around, but not on the back at all times. Should be interchangeable from back mount to frunk with ease. Thanks!

My guess it they looked at this option. I can’t imagine designing a car from the ground up with no legacy constraints and not offering it. These ideas were suggested early on so they know the idea was pitched. Having seen it in person I can’t imagine a 35 tire fitting in the frunk but who knows-maybe between now and production they will figure something out

I agree, I would love to have the option for a full size spare in the frunk. For me I would want at least a 35 (like you mentioned) or even a 37 inch spare to fit though. Now I have not seen these concept vehicles in-person as others have, but I’m fairly confident it would be very tough to get a 37 in the frunk area. If they somehow made it happen, then we’d have the downside that the frunk would be full of spare tire and no longer useable for anything else. That would be disappointing. Give and take…🤷‍♂️

There’s always give and take with something like this and it all depends on how you’ll use the vehicle determining how important certain features are to you. Maybe the aftermarket will come up with rear bumper mounted spare solutions on the Terra, for example. Perhaps the Traveler as well if the factory option is limited to 35 inch.

Agreed. Lots of storage options are great.

That said, tires are deceptively large. Its easy to forget how large they are when they're on the vehicle. But even a 33in tire is pretty large, and heavy. I haven't seen the prototyptes in person, but I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't doesn't work (at least with the larger tire sizes).

Perhaps it would work as a smaller (non-dougnut) spare size?

For years I've had 31x10.50R15's on my Jeep, but the spare tier is still the stock 235/75R15, as it fits better. And as I've got open diffs, it still works fine for pavement limp home mode. So they could potentially have a "not optimal size, but still useable unlike a doughnut" type of spare.

I definitely agree. I think even a 33 inch tire would take up more space (likely all of it) in the frunk than we’d like to think.

I’m also in agreement that a smaller spare that would work for limping home should be an option considered. It would need to work with the drivetrain on the Scout of course and I’d likely be second-guessing it if I ever had to use it on one of our remote adventures because it would be pretty time consuming to make it limping back 50, 100, sometimes 150 miles on dirt to get back to some sort of civilization, but hey if it allowed us to get home safe 🤷‍♂️ - everything has a set of compromises that goes with it, right?.

It seems like a good idea at first but by way of example, the diameter if my 275/65R20 Pirelli AT Scorpions is 34. If I wanted to to somehow fit these in the frunk of my R1T (for comparison), my frunk would need to be at least a foot bigger from front to back, if not more. That would create an extremely longggggg front-end and gigantic frunk.

Yikes. I was assuming that was probably the reality of the situation. Thanks for confirming. (y)

Having seen it in person and frunk open I’m thinking it’s a hair bigger than a donut spare.

The only way it might sort of fit, is if you take the slide out seat out, to open up some more depth (and store it vertically)?

But yeah, doesn't seem promising.
That’s what I was saying. They would have to tweak what we saw to make it stand vertically but may be possible. Definitely would eat up space in the frunk
