I’m really hoping they don’t tie too many features to packages or trim levels. I’d really like to pick and choose.Hopefully we can still run the 35's and have all the off-road capabilities without the air suspension.

Also battery size. 120-130kw for BEV. Half that for EREV. That implies 2.75miles/kw efficiency.Things that were discussed:
1). Harvester gas tank will be around 15 gallons
2). Lower Harvester towing rating, around 5,000 lbs. This will be a big disappointment for some.
3). The body is steel and aluminum.
4). Air suspension is optional
5). NMC battery for BEV, LFP battery for EREV.
It’s my understanding from what they said in the video that that noise is just because it’s a prototype and the real vehicle won’t sound that way. They stated in the video it wasn’t street legal because it didn’t even have working seat belts.First off, I do hope they change that road noise. It sounded like gear noise - the same noise I got on my Jeep before I had to do a $2k repair to the rear axle. Jay mentions at 18:10 that it is a test mule - the gear noise will be addressed during development. Jamie did not comment on Jay's observation. Jay mentions the gear whine again at 26 minutes - don't judge the car by the whine, it's a test mule. Must be annoying as hell though...
I am still going through the video, but "Steady State" might be part of the issue. They want the Harvester to provide enough electricity to maintain a steady state at 70mph. Hook up a trailer, and the amount of energy to tow at 70mph probably doubles. If the Harvester can not provide that level of power, there will be no steady state (you will be draining the battery). At some point, they could partially address this in software - They are already planning a mode that starts the Harvester early for performance. They would just need to see what it can handle and for how many miles. Perhaps you could get 7-8k of towing if you plan ahead and accept you are towing with an EV with a range extender - that will still need periodic charging during the trip (as opposed to just adding gas and keep driving).
This isn't indicative of how our production vehicles will sound at all.
I always give creditRemove the credits, they don’t do it to us… why give the respect lol.
I heard its being tested on VW Type82 Kubelwagen platform from the graveyard of antiques. LMAO!!
And that, my friend, sums up the world we live in today!Sadly Jay actually did say that but to your point I agree-people continue reacting rather than asking questions and educating themselves
VW Type 82 Thing and the Karmann Ghia are my two favorite classic VWs.View attachment 5338
Funny you mentioned that. This is my brother’s Type 82 Thing that’s in the paint booth last week.
Power density is also affected by chemistry, and a host of other characteristics, it’s not just capacity and charging speed.
Not even close to what Jamie was talking about lol. I think he meant that they won’t sound whiny.
I knew someone would read between the lines-haha!And that, my friend, sums up the world we live in today!![]()
Quite honestly I was impressed how fast and far that prototype went. If they drive at all, these kinds of prototypes are usually glorified golf carts with just enough juice to move it around an expo center and onto a truck for shipping. It’s my understanding from what they said in the video that that noise is just because it’s a prototype and the real vehicle won’t sound that way. 15mph top speed yesterday from what Scott said in the video. Thats enough to hit someone and make them fall over. So not bad speed for a prototype.Quite honestly I was impressed how fast and far that prototype went. I mean I might be correct, but considering the motor is just a generator and not being used to drive the wheels you might not see a power drop at all due to elevation (it just might charge slower so your range would be lower)?Getting closer to production, I hope that towing is nailed down better. I live at 6500 ft. and have to travel up and over passes to get anywhere from our town. Going west to Utah is the only slight grade but some killer hills. I want to be able to tow a RV so hopefully power drop is not to bad and capacity stays around 5000.
That is correct. Scott & Jay talked about that situation on the video. All the torque all the time. However, depending on the grade the generator will be running as needed. P.S. The generator runs at the same speed all the time.I mean I might be correct, but considering the motor is just a generator and not being used to drive the wheels you might not see a power drop at all due to elevation (it just might charge slower so your range would be lower)?
do you envision the Terra (Harvester) being able to tow more than the traveler (Harvester)?. I added harvester to both to clarify the truck and SUV version. Thanks in advance.Let's wait and see what the final tow numbers end up being. This is still fluid and the teams are still optimizing a number of things.
@chucchinchilla the current mules testing don't look like Audi Q6 e-trons. It is pretty hard to hide the big frame rails under anything VW Group makes (well except maybe the Crafter!).
Lastly, it is unfortunate that the concept vehicles are noisier than we like, but that is a direct result of the very basic drivetrain designed to move them on and off trucks and onto a show stand/display area. This isn't indicative of how our production vehicles will sound at all. Just to clarify.
Scott said 5000 each for Harvesters. Then, he did say they are still crunching the numbers and that could change.do you envision the Terra (Harvester) being able to tow more than the traveler (Harvester)?. I added harvester to both to clarify the truck and SUV version. Thanks in advance.
Hopefully that changes. That is a disappointing number. While not a deal breaker it may be for some.Scott said 5000 each for Harvesters. Then, he did say they are still crunching the numbers and that could change.
