RV Towing

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I'm also hoping the Traveler can be towed and that other considerations for towing behind an RV are being considered. Like potentially using the front recovery points as a base plate (there are several Jeep after market bumpers that support this), optional mounting points for tow chains and some sort of "smart" braking mechanism. That would be a real game changer for the RV people looking to get into an EV...

Since the differentials can be locked, it's not inconceivable to hope that they can also be opened. If the differentials can't be set open, then it won't be possible. ZF, the probable drive unit / axle manufacturer, claims that their ebeam axles can be optioned to allow open differentials.

I hope this is something Scout Motors takes into consideration because it would be a nice option to have. We don't currently need to flat tow but have pondered the decision to trade up from our smaller travel trailer into a smaller Class C. I imagine the weight of the Traveler could be an issue with some of the chassis options for motorhomes. Unless of course you're talking a diesel pusher lol.

Personal opinion, it will not be ZF. I do expect an announcement sooner rather than later.

What I've read so far indicates an electronic locker standard in the rear axle with an optional front electronic locker. Since they have used the "electronic" verbiage, that tells me it's selectable and can probably be engaged / disengaged automatically depending on drive mode, or, since they are also promoting the use of tactile buttons and switches in the cockpit, manually as desired via "push button".

Default will certainly be open.

There are at least two others. There is one that I think is the most likely candidate. I just cannot say the name at this moment. But, it is very familiar. 😉
Sure be interesting if they got a Dana under there. *begins frantically googling axle makers with electronic solid axles in the works*

Hmmmmmmmm seems that last year Dana announced a partnership to produce electric axles for a future project of an undisclosed American vehicle manufacturer: https://www.toledoblade.com/busines...o-improved-second-quarter/stories/20230728114

Confirmed - in the podcast that was just posted, Scout's Shaheen Karimian confirmed user selectable lockers with the ability to manually lock or unlock each axle using physical buttons or switches in the cab.
