Removable Rear Seats

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I would be fine with a back seat that folds completely flat vs. a quick remove option.
I second this. Flat fold is a convenience anytime and for anything. Pulling seats eventually strips bolt heads and loosens the connection to the body putting seat break away during an impact/collision as a potential death. Saw it occur on a vehicle once but my sister didn’t die-luckily.
We’ve been asking from nearly day one to have fold flat seats so hopefully that is the ultimate direction.
If intent is a full time dedicated 2-seat overlander then I’d rather see that small group of people contend with seat removal for the benefit of the remainder of owners having fold flat seats

I’m not sure what good seat removal is going to do for me over a flat folding seat if I need to haul stuff or put in a mattress. There’s still the remaining platform in the cargo area. Do I remove that, too? Where do I store this if I’m an urban renter, condo owner, shed-less, or garage-less? Not everyone has endless storage for parts. No thanks.

I just don’t see stripping bolt heads a problem. I removed the seats from my Samurai a LOT. The bolt heads still look great and have the factory protective coating.

That said I don’t want to remove seats if I don’t have too. I want something that lays flat, so I can sleep back there. I removed seats in Samurai so I could sleep in it.

My 2001 Toyota Sequoia has removable third row seats that I rarely put in due to the space and extra weight of the vehicle. There are no bolts, they simply latch into the bed of the truck. They can fold down but not flat. The newer Sequoias have fold flat which honestly take up a lot of cargo area. However, for the second row seating it's a more difficult choice to make. I think I am going to have to get comfortable to the idea of downsizing. SM has amazed us so far. Maybe they can engineer seats that are both removable or lay flat. :)
