Rear Window

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Since a full soft top isn’t an option, I’d like to see the rear window be able to be lowered into the tailgate like the 4Runner/Tundra from Toyota. I feel like this coupled with the large roof opening would be a great compromise for not having a full soft top/removable hard top option.

I would agree. I’d love a removable top. I’d love a soft top option. I’d love a full roll down rear window. However, I believe the space needed to retract the window fully into the gate would likely require the elimination of the pull down tailgate and I also really love the tailgate. I believe it’s a situation of not being able to have the cake and eat it too. Has to be one or the other, but not both I imagine.

Basic issues:
--Due to the angle of the rear window within the hatch, there's no practical way to have it slide down into the hatch without redesigning the whole shape of the rear.

--Due to the spare tire carrier latch being attached to the hatch, the hatch can't be left open with the tailgate and spare carrier closed.

--The spare tire and carrier prevent the glass from popping open and being top-hinged.

My solution for an operable rear window, and knowing most people wouldn't regular use one, I'd try to keep it simple/inexpensive: Have a pop-open window like the FJ Cruiser, but don't ruin the Traveler's body lines by cutting a radius out for the spare tire. Instead, have two settings where the glass can pop out a few inches for rear ventilation, and another setting for full open where you have to open the spare tire carrier, open the window fully and close the spare tire carrier. The spoiler, third brake light and rear wiper can all mount to this hinged portion.

Seeing it in person I’m pretty sure the glass will NOT fit. I’m hoping struts are solid enough to open the glass hatch while driving. Maybe not 70mph on the interstate but just 35-40 around town

I’d really like a fully opening rear window, but if that’s not possible the idea of allowing it to pop open a bit for ventilation would be great

As you said that I recalled-at the reveal event the back upper hatch was operated by remote(fob I presume). With that said setting it up as a two stage would be a great idea. Even if a couple inches assuming not terribly loud or back drafting rain and dirt into the cabin

I know my FJ struts are fine at 90mph with no issues and the glass is rock solid at speed.

Just angle the window a bit less so it can go down into the door. Leave the side body panels the same. Kinda like the old Honda Del Sol. I loved rolling my rear window down. The air that comes thru there is so refreshing. With the top open and all windows down this would be a cool convertible.

That would be a nice feature to have, current design though I'm not sure how they could make it happen due to the angles of the back and that the back gate splits, in pictures it doesn't look like there's enough room in the upper portion for the glass to slide down into. As far as popping it open like the FJ, from pictures it seems like if you had the spare tire carrier optioned, the glass wouldn't be able to pop open.

They would need to make it a bit thicker on the inside and flat not V shaped to handle the window rolling inside. I looked at some pictures and I see what you mean but it could easily be done but they may have to redesign that fly out piece at the bottom too. They have 2 years to figure it out :)
