Rear Window - Flip Up Option

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Since the Traveler will have a split gate, its likely a roll-down rear window won't work. So, what I'd really like to see is the rear window be able to flip up like in the Toyota Land Cruiser and Highlander. Super useful.

Someone already suggested the rear side windows popping open. Would be nice to have that as well.

Maybe I’m missing something, but how would this be more useful than just opening the liftgate? The glass wouldn’t be able to open with the spare carrier locked in place any way (if equipped). With my LR, I routinely just open the liftgate and leave the tailgate closed.

I have glass just like the OP asked for in my old ZJ. I use it, probably similar to how you use the liftgate on your LR.

If I have a long thing that I'm putting into the vehicle (last week it was a 10ft pipe for a weather station), I slid it in through the back glass, up to the passenger footwell (on top of the rear bench seat and through where the front console goes). It was easier than laying down some seats.

I'll also use it if I think that I might drop something out of the tailgate area (ie, the area is packed with stuff like groceries, or maybe a bunch of kids stuffed animals from a road trip...).

I like the feature, but I'm also not super dead set on it either. And I'd prefer a rolldown, but that won't work because of the tailgate (which I also like), so I'm not sure what I "want" in this instance.

Other than the Traveler, I want the traveler :D.

Agree and having had a Toyota Highlander the flip up glass was tremendously useful for long items on a short or medium haul. I’m concerned with opening upper hatch the tailgate portion isn’t that high so worried things might get sucked out.
Now opening top then closing spare carrier that might help if that can all work that way.

I asked for that like 18 months ago so I’m selfishly taking credit 🤣🤣🤣
    Just thinking out loud here.

The moment that I can say that (if I ever get to say that), I'll feel like I've finally contributed :D.

"See that <obscure thing I continually posted about> kiddo (of course I'm speaking to my kid in this daydream, for some reason)? I made that happen! Without me, there wouldn't be <this thing that only I am very excited about>!"

That will be a great day.

I’d like to believe SM has great designers and thinkers but as long as some of us have been on here, I’d like to think that some of the things we suggested that have made there appearance on the prototypes are because a forum member idea was suggested. Perhaps they were just designer ideas or maybe a combination of both.
Either way, short of the fully removable roof and wishing the upper glass in rear hatch opened independent the traveller is about as perfect as I could ever imagine it being.
May be fun next year when we have nothing new to talk about to start mining the first year of comments and suggestions and put together a list of all the ideas that were suggested and made it onto the vehicles. Then we can all have a moment of make believe stardom 🤣
