Position charge port BEHIND the power outlets

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

First, thank you for placing it on the rear left of both vehicles so that they're not taking up two spaces when they charge at certain Supercharger sites.

After looking at the 360 view of the Traveler and considering the placement of the spare tire, you're going to want to close the distance between the charge port and the NACS charger. At some V3 Tesla Supercharger sites the charging pedestals have been centered behind their parking space so the charging cable may be a bit stretched to reach the charge port in that current forward position, if the Traveler has the spare tire on back.

I actually think putting it on the front passenger side would be better. That would work for most charging stations while still allowing easy access to chargers when towing.

There are over 10,000 NACS charging stalls in the US & Canada that were built to favor a charge port placed on the rear left side of the EV.

As far as towing, some sites are starting to have or add a pull through charging stall.

When I first saw the Terra I thought the Harvester port was the Charging Port

That’s why I was thinking front right would be ideal. Would have the same effect as rear left but also let you pull front end in, not only for towing trailers but if you have a cargo mount or something similar that makes backing all the way in and getting the charger to reach difficult.

But they would work just fine on the front right side, with the added benefit that you wouldn’t need to back in to the space, and they’d be on the curb side for street charging. Tesla made the wrong decision on port placement, it’s irritating when others blindly do the same because that’s the way Tesla does it. That’s the same kind of thinking that lead others to do everything on touch screens.

Front passenger would effectively be the same as rear driver's side as far as being compatible with older Superchargers. You'd nose in instead of back in but you'd take the same space.

If they put it on the rear driver side as it appears they're going to do, We won't be able to tow with the vehicle nearly as easily and trouble-free as I can do with the Lightning--it's less hassle to take up two SuperCharger spots than to unhook. I don't know whether I would give up the Lightning for the Scout if they put the charge port in the wrong place. They should seriously reconsider the location.

At this very moment, I’m conflicted on where I would prefer it to be; my first choice would definitely be driver rear as they currently have it placed since I always back in for several reasons (it was also beat into me that it’s safer to back in versus pulling in during my stint as a delivery driver). At the same time, I tow a lot and would not want to be forced to unhitch to charge as I’ve seen done a few times while observing Tesla charging. I just wish the charging infrastructure included pull-through spaces for those times when I tow cross-country. I hear they exist, but I haven’t seen any in-person. Hopefully plans include adding a lot more of them now that the Cybertruck is around and Rivian is using the network as well.

Are y'all looking to just get the pure-EV version and tow? I have zero plans to tow and charge. If I'm towing and out of electrons... its why I went with the Harvester.

Not a current EV owner now, but it seems to me that the EV public charging is kind of expensive (like on par with gas, maybe a touch cheaper). But 80% of my driving I do around town, so charging off the solar panels on my house means a faster ROI on them.

I vote for the rear simply cause I like to back into my driveway :)

Hey, my fellow Scouts, how are you doing today? You know, I've been thinking about things that bring meaning to life lately, and for me, a big part of that is the front passenger’s side as an optimal place for the charging port. Have you ever considered what the front passenger’s side means to people?

I...

Hmmm.

I'll admit it. I mostly think of the front passenger side of the vehicle as the front passenger side of the vehicle.

Sometimes I specify something like "right front quarterpanel", or "right A pillar area". But... I usually just think of statements like "front passenger side of the vehicle" as a descriptor of location.

Should I be thinking of something else?!?

Have you ever heard the story about the front passenger side’s warm embrace of existing Superchargers? I heard that front passenger side outlets sacrifice the inconvenience of a rear driver’s side outlet when towing to offer convenience for our chargings. These stories really resonate with me.

And no worries if this isn’t something you’re thinking about right now, I’d be happy to direct you to some literature about the front passenger’s side. I just wanted to share what’s important to me.

(Thank you for considering the cult of the front passenger’s side today.)

Do extrapolate!

No, I have never considered that. I'm glad you have your priorities straight! 😉 I've never owned an EV, so I will defer to those that have. The Harvester fuel filler has to go somewhere, ideally close to the tank.
