Optional 2nd Row Captain Chairs

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Even without the option for a 3rd row, making the SUV a 4 seater vice a bench seat for the rear would be definitely different. Rarely do I need to carry more than two people and current vehicles have chairs that can fold flat to offer cargo room so there isn't anything really lost.

I'll be honest here.

I don't understand your post. Can you explain it a bit more?

The Scouts are either 5, or 6 passenger vehicles. You want to make the rear of the vehicle seat 4 people, via a bench seat? Isn't the rear already a bench seat? And you say you never need to carry more than other people, which doesn't that mean that you could use the front bench seat, or just, the front passenger seat and one of the rear seats?

I think this would be a nice option. You can have both captain chairs and 5 seats. You just need to make the middle seat removable. Lots of other SUVs have offered this before.

With only 2 rows, the second row must be a bench! At least as standard equipment. Anyone with a baby car seat will understand. Captain’s chairs need to be an option.

I like the option of second row captain chairs.
I second that but understandably other SUVs that have second row captains seats are generally an option so that is fair. So long as rear seat stays (appears to be…) a 40/20/40 split then I’m cool with the bench. I just despise 40/60 split because you can’t load longer items and still get 2 rear passengers.

I agree having an option for 2nd row as captain’s chairs instead of a bench would be awesome. We have teenage/tween children now and by the time the scout is actually available I think this option will only become more important for me. Road trips have a LOT less bickering between children when there is a little separation between them! Captains chairs are so much more comfortable for adults or older children than bench seats and I also think it offers more flexible storage space and increased accessibility

I agree, it's difficult to find an SUV in the market today that offers captain seats w/ 4WD, I think we're limited to the Sequoia and the Explorer. I'm having these conversations now as these are two must haves for my Wife and the Sequoia is out of the ballpark with pricing. The captain chairs are as others mentioned great for children and adults. I hope SM can offer this as an option, bonus if they can be easily folded upward or hidden to add space for Overlanding and sleeping in the vehicle, Explorer has this w/ the 3rd row.

2025 Honda Pilot Trailsport has 2nd row captain's. Acura MDX offers them as well.

With 4wd? Thought they were AWD.
Yes, they are AWD. Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I'm not sure I would call the Explorer a "true" 4x4 either from the descriptions I've read of it. You are correct--there aren't many true 4x4 options these days.

I mean maybe if SM make a 3row SUV in the future you could do a 2nd row Captain Chairs. And you could just keep the 3rd row down anyways.

Works if you need the extra space. Having seen it in person the rear cargo area has a great amount of space. As I said previously I can see a 40/20/49 split bench as standard and 2nd row captains would be an option to try. I don’t know what take rate would be like but for buyers wanting the Scout as an upscale daily and not off-road warrior it might be a great take rate.
I do see a 3-row larger SUV as one of SM next vehicles especially for larger families.
