Hood Tie-Downs

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I hadn't really thought too much about the hood tie-downs, and I have never owned a vehicle that had hood tie-downs. Now that is is cold up north, I'm wondering if these could potentially be an option, or if they could be deleted as part of a cold-weather package? I can see those tie-downs getting gummed up with snow and ice, then eventually letting ice loose on the HWY. They might also make it a little harder to remove fresh snow, as opposed to having a clean smooth hood surface for a snow broom, for example. In a pick-up, I have never really had a need to tie anything down to the hood. In the rare case that I have something long up over the roof, I just tie to the front recovery hooks. Curious how others feel and if I might be missing a more common use case for having tie-downs on the hood, or if they are just ornamental.

I've seen some pretty cool accessories for the Bronco that includes fishing pole holders. These are referred to as trail sight guides on the Bronco and have a weight capacity of 300# I believe. They do serve a purpose, not for most though. In addition, if you have items on your roof top, you can use these as anchor points.

I see it as a benefit and visually they look great but in PA we don’t get a ton of snow anymore so hadn’t given thought. I almost said heat from engine would melt it but…oops!
My only question is what is the weight capacity as the Bronco sights are mounted on sides on top of body. These are on the hood. Is there a reinforced bar under the skin of the hood? Just thinking something rigid and secure needs to be under there or hoods gonna buckle

I haven't really had problems with them being "gummed up" in MN...I don't use them often, but they've come in handy a few times and I'm happy to see SM including them.
