Getting up to speed with EV tech

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hey everyone! What an exciting weekend it’s been. I’ve been curious about something when it comes to EV platforms.

Seems like most of these larger EVs can push out 1,000 pound feet of toque and easily accelerate at super car levels.

Is it possible for these motors to be detuned to more “average” levels, like 400-700 pound feet and 5ish second 0-60 and as a result add more range, or am I just completely missing the concept haha

I would seriously bet that the acceleration can be adjusted via software (valet mode, young adult mode, economy mode, sport mode - etc...). Torque is a natural feature of these electric motors. At the end of the day, I suspect it is not all that costly to get - and not much benefit to give up. Likewise, they do feel they need to compete with other EV's that offer it standard.

They probably can if it is offered. My Tesla has a chill mode which limits the acceleration to more normal figures. I only really use that if it’s snowing though.

Ditto, likely a driver profile setting to smoothen and lessen the acceleration like Tesla. I keep my Tesla at max acceleration in “Sport” mode rather than “Chill” and learn to adjust my input (pedal pushing) instead. That way I’ve got the power when I need it and have self-control when I don’t. Like gas, the heavier your foot, the less efficient/mileage.

You don't have to push the pedal to the metal.

We've had our Mustang Mach-e for a little over 2.5 years and 43,000 miles of about 60% road tripping and 40% city driving. The EPA range estimate is 312 miles. Our lifetime average efficiency is 4.1 miles/kWh with a 91 kWh battery. We can easily get 370 to 450 miles around town. On the freeway, we get about 320 miles.

There are several pre-programmed accelerator profiles built in to the car. These profiles change the response between 0% and 100% throttle (0% and 100% are the same for all profiles). I typically drive with the middle profile set--enough acceleration to beat most non-GT gas Mustangs but not so much as to tear up the tires. My partner typically drives in "whisper" mode, but she doesn't have any interest in hard acceleration.
