Ditch Dealerships

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
49% of VW dealerships reported in a survey that they are "not excited at all" to sell EVs so it's a little rich that they're now threatening to sue for the privilege. I guess it never occurred to them that if they want to sell the hot new EV they might want to put a little more effort into selling the ones they already have available.

Most EV buyers have had terrible experiences at dealerships, I know I certainly have. Either the dealer was completely clueless about the vehicle, or tried to mark it up an ridiculous amount, or were actively dismissive of it and tried to sell me on a gas pickup instead. Most of the dealers I've encountered actively spread false or misinformation about EVs. I have no sympathy for the VW dealers, they made their own bed.

Vomit. Car dealerships around here are run by warring vampire factions. I get that the automotive industry has lobbyists for stuff like this and that it’s to the dealers’ advantage to get laws like this passed, but it’s crap. Consumers should have more options for buying cars than going through dealers if they want. They shouldn’t be the only means to the sale of new cars. Like, if I wanted to buy a car through Costco, I want to buy one through Costco, not via a dealership that works through Costco because that’s the law. Why should it be the law that I buy a car through a car dealer who sends me 50 e-mails a week like they’re trying to convince me to let them back in the house? I made the mistake of looking into the Costco auto program a few months ago because I was curious how it worked and now some Audi dealership sends me weekly pleading e-mails to give them one more chance. This topic makes me so salty.

I have definitely had my share of negative experiences at a wide variety of dealerships over the years. Some of them downright operate like a predatory criminal enterprise. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a select few decent experiences as well so they’re not 100% bad. Experience has proven to me though that those were the outliers. I fully bristle whenever the words “car dealer” are uttered.

Dealerships give me the opportunity to toy with people when they're being anything but fair. I enjoy the playtime but really hope Scout Motors doesn't back down and sticks with the direct-to-consumer plan.

My wife and I do the same. She’s phenomenal at running numbers and I generally know more about the car we are buying than the sales person so we just work them over. We’ve had two deals over the past 15 years where they told us they gave too much off. The one deal they actually lost money because they lost track of things as we bantered. It was the pinnacle of our car buying experiences.

Yes! My husband doesn’t have the patience to “deal” with them. I like the game. It’s fun going in with 100% of the salespeople assuming I know less than diddly squat about a vehicle or how it all works just because I’m a woman.
