Wonder if Scout could bump up the ground clearance to what the Rivian offers then you wouldn't need such monster tires as I assume they hurt the milage range?

There are some of us who modify our vehicles for function and actually use them off pavement quite often.
Valid point for each side. When legit itā€™s valid but central PA has a TON of modded SUVā€™s and you can tell the majority are just modded for looks but if you work and earn money then spend as you please. They do look good modded

Ohhhh okay Iā€™m coming from a very different situation then. I get it. Iā€™ve seen the bro trucks with pristine undercarriages. Around here there isnā€™t much of that. If itā€™s modded, thereā€™s usually a reason and it gets used as thereā€™s plenty of opportunity.

However, Iā€™m not going to tell anyone how to spend their money that theyā€™ve earned. To each their own. I donā€™t care one bit what people spend their own money on regardless of my own preferences. Itā€™s none of my business.

Sure, but you don't need 37" tires to off road. Putting much larger tires than necessary on off-road capable vehicles tends to be prevalent regardless of the difficulty of any actual off-roading.

With EV's the price for overdoing the tire size is going to be higher, and much more difficult to live with.

Losing significant MPG, really impacts only your wallet, while losing significant BEV range significantly impacts the usability.

I have 37s and a few more inches of ground clearance than the Scouts on our current vehicles. I still use my skid plates on the terrain we traverse and thatā€™s with me avoiding the roughest obstacles and trails as needed because Iā€™m not into damaging my truck or performing trail repairs.

The lower to the terrain I am, the more obstacles and trails I have to avoidā€¦or struggle through. Iā€™m not looking to go backward in off road capability.

This is a fair assessment. I agree. I would love to have both vehicles, but itā€™s not in the budget. Thatā€™s also why I have the Harvester reserved and my fingers crossed tightly. (y) Hopefully itā€™ll work out for my intended use, but if not Iā€™ve already got a setup that works very well for everything I do.
 
I just get real tired of the ever-growing wedge between ā€œstuff for people with giant piles of money to throw at toysā€ and ā€œpeople who donā€™t have that kind of income.ā€ Pardon the rant, but I had one bad year and my financial situation changed dramatically and hasnā€™t improved because of things outside of my control, like bad health, and it is frustrating to see people cosplaying as simple, wholesome, salt-of-the-earth-folks with like $200K of kit because I absolutely want to be one of those cosplayers and will be going the budget route. šŸ˜…

If you do this and itā€™s your jam and youā€™re not a brotruckman, I got no beef.

I agree with this. I have 31's on my Samurai and it is more than enough, but I also understand heavy EV is going to need much larger rims to fit the necessary larger brakes and I rather have more tire than rim. We will have to see what fits under there.

My discussions are largely theoretical because I like understanding technology, so I'm waiting impatiently for Harvester info to dig into (being the most unique element).

The initial Scouts are outside my price range. Everything seems crazy expensive now. Maybe a less expensive future model... After it's been used for a few years by someone else first. ;)

Oh, mine are just whiny and grouchy tonight. šŸ˜… Iā€™m just mad because I have to turn myself, my elderly mom, and my cat out on the corner so I can afford some nice options in a couple of years.

Understand some of the points made here.

SM shouldnā€™t be making trucks for the .001% of gonzo Rubicon vertical rock wall rigs that get trailered to the place they get destroyed.

Make a solid and dependable platform that people can mod as they wish.

Iā€™ve taken largely stock Land Rover Disco / Defender vehicles off-highway from Alberta to Guatemala. And driven them back. On 31s and 33s. With pretty conventional and dependable coil sprung set ups, and stock running gear. Winches that almost never saw their synth line pulled out in anger. But we were often on Camel Trophy and Border to Border tier trails.

At Moab, Anza Borego and down in the jungles of Belize. We NEVER encountered a jacked Jeep or Ford Raptor in any of these places that didnā€™t come on a trailer. We did see Land Cruisers from time to time, and they were like-kitted to our Rovers.

SM is almost precisely where they need to be for 99.5% of future owners with the preview trucks.

The one truck that was supposed to accompany us to Central America that didnā€™t make it out of the Land Rover Houston parking lot was a jacked Range Rover Classic from Florida onā€¦ 37s. That thing was otherwise a total sh*tbox in every way. All tire, no cattle, as they say.
 
I see other folks have had much different experiences than I. I guess I donā€™t really understand the hate specifically for 37s, but I can see the crowd here has some pretty hard set opinions on them for some reason. Pretty interesting. I donā€™t really get why anyone cares what size tires someone else wants or uses. If theyā€™re not for you, donā€™t get them and donā€™t let them make you angry.

Iā€™ve had mine for several years now. They were the lightest and cheapest I could find - in fact, not much heavier or more expensive than the stock tires they replaced at that time. The 2 inch lift that allowed them to fully stuff when articulated was something like $200 or so. I installed everything myself in order to afford it. If I wasnā€™t planning to use it off road more and more, I wouldnā€™t have needed the lift and I wouldnā€™t have bothered with the different tires. Iā€™ve had a total of zero breakages and zero reliability issues in the past 5+ years. There are occasional 3 to 5 foot or larger rock ledges on certain trails depending where youā€™re at so extra clearance can be a big benefit. Yes I ran some of the trails on my stock 33s without issues, but I was also on my skids a lot more. It is what it is.
