1976 SCOUT II (with '71 grill insert)
Tell us about your Scout:
This was a frame off 1976 SOUT II restoration project, with all new glass, two tone paint and hardware. The original low mileage 304 engine was cleaned, repainted and tuned up with a carburetor rebuild with all seals, belts and gaskets replaced. The engine was mated to a four-speed manual transmission, with low/High ratio and manual locking hubs.
The body was lifted off the frame, disassembled, soda blasted and repaired while all rust was cut out, new floorboards installed, with new body panel skins, rocker panels, body mounts and patch replacements welded in. While the body was off the frame was wire brushed cleaned and repainted. A four-point roll bar was installed and a new headliner put in.
A moderate 2" lift was installed with new suspension and 35" wheels along with an original roof rack, OEM heavy-duty rear bumper and new swing out tire carrier and white "Rallye" hockey stick side graphics were purchased. New carpet, etc. etc....
It was an obsessive passion project that was great for learning, with countless hours and dollars invested and worth every penny. Unfortunately, after all the hard work and during the final assembly/start-up phase, I had to sell the SCOUT to make rent for a few months, when I was looking for work after graduating from university. It found a new home in the mountains of Colorado and has been enjoyed (and modified) by the new owner ever since.
I could invest in another "old project," but now I'm looking to the future with a SCOUT EV extended range Traveler
Ever forward!
