  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Scout Motors FAQ - Last update December 28, 2023

Coming out the gate aiming directly at your foot... nice. So much for having a unique slate of offerings, if you plan on driving in Rivian's ruts. The prospects you're offering seem improbable in a vehicle claimed to be the successor of an extremely economical, agrarian work machine that...

From The History Archives: Where the Scout II Was Headed

Tim Walz... both a Veteran (retired Master Sargent, like my Dad) and High School teacher (like my Mom) has excellent taste in vehicles. A couple shirt-tail cousins had him as a teacher in Mankato, MN... said he was the most inspiring teachers they'd ever had. His DD is a traveler, I've seen...

From The History Archives: Where the Scout II Was Headed

Looks an awful lot like the Swiss manufactured Monteverdi that used the Scout II as a base...

    Manual Transmission

A third pedal used to control the movement of certain wheels when crawling might not be a bad idea... a simulated clutch or brake line-locks that allow certain wheels to freewheel or lock up depending on terrain and speed, I've stated before that one of my big complaints about EV drivetrains is...

    Marketing Idea

A great way to increase positive exposure would be to offer Complimentary (read: Tax Write-off) vehicles and chargers to forestry and state/national parks, each one could be tailored/kitted for each particular climate and terrain... get them seen as working-class vehicles whenever they visit...

    Mazda Rotary Range Extender

A unit that fits on a swing-away on the rear bumper, modeled like a spare tire that's fueled by a bumper mounted jerrycan, but there's an inherent rear collision hazard there so would have to be trail use/limited speed only... a protected unit that mounts in combo between the hitch & bumper...

    Mazda Rotary Range Extender

If you read the article I provided, you'd see that there are redesigned, American made rotary motors available that would fit this purpose like a glove... It's another area Scout Motors could leverage American manufacturing into their designs while improving their range via an uncommon, quirky...

Are there ways to be involved?

My uncle sent me a link to the 800 ad, but I hadn't seen the ad for the 80 yet. I'm glad they're saved somewhere for posterity's sake.

    Mazda Rotary Range Extender

Pushed within an inch of their limits with constantly changing demands, sure... A duty-specific redesign can eliminate many of the shortcomings of Mazda's rotary. The idea's been kicked around for half a decade or more now.

Are there ways to be involved?

Great products... I came across a vintage Scout 800 Ad the other day. I had no idea they existed.

    Battery Range Solution

For me it was the fire resistance. **** wildfires.

    Scout Design Ideas

I thought a pancake-shaped, low weight rotary generator would fit well on the back like a Spare Tire, and could draw fuel from a nearby jerrycan.

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

I thought Albert Einstein of all people saying "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal." was pretty telling.

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

My apologies if I came across as brusque. The history I have with the vintage vehicles draws deep emotions from me. The old vintage IHC's are everything today's bland and overpriced appliances aren't, and the chance of seeing a finalized vehicle I'll be able to both modify and maintain myself...
