  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    What If?

Efficiency: I agree with the studies from the mechanical/automotive engineering universities linked in my last post as well as the video by the engineer earlier, that turbines in these cases have the potential to increase overall efficiency and will defer to them on this topic. Practicality: On...

    What If?

Given the video was seen as insufficient due to its title, the following discuss aerodynamic energy harvesting at length. -Feasibility studies of micro wind turbines installed on electric vehicles as range extenders using real-time analytical simulation with multi driving cycles scenarios...

    What If?

Clearly. Though I understand the skepticism, there is a question mark at the end of that title for a reason...

    What If?

No problem. I always try to steel man the things that people say/post, so assumed @Harris005 was referring to a configuration that would actually work… as opposed to a configuration that would definitely not work.

    What If?

If by “positive gain” you mean could a vehicle with a properly sized/positioned turbine within the “red area” like that of the picture above recover some of the energy that would otherwise be lost to air resistance (i.e. improve the efficiency of the vehicle)... then yes. Whether it makes sense...

    Thoughts about an EV off-roader?

On the EV side, its potentially just tapping into systems that already exist for other purposes. On the APU side, it would need to be something like 10–15kW continuous to offset load enough to enable a appreciable range gain with an F-150 lighting-esque vehicle during a highway trip. 100 percent.

    Scout Design Team Feedback V1

Well maybe they’ll consider the strategy outlined above, that is full EVs with the ability to accept an APU as a self-contained module. There are obviously trade-offs versus a more integrated approach but the flexibility it offers customers during the transition may be worth it. Many will...

    Scout Design Team Feedback V1

Tend to agree with you, though seeing so many people request this makes one wonder if Scout Motors couldn’t satisfy them with minimal effort by simply creating a loose open APU form factor/standard for the sub trunk or frunk area (when the storage containers are removed). Thereby facilitating...

    Scout Design Team Feedback V1

This 💯 or if packaging issues arise at least on the front passenger side as both positions would work well with existing pull in chargers, Tesla Superchargers, and curbside charging. More convenient in general and reduce the odds one would need to unhook when towing.

    Camping / Overland Ideas

EVs are already a logical choice for some, for others how long will depend on what their barrier to entry is. EVs are not going to work for everyone overnight, it has and will continue to happen gradually (baring some strange breakthrough) but economies of scale, optimized supply lines, and more...

    Camping / Overland Ideas

Personally don't think the migration is stalling per se but rather the growth was slower than some had expected (YOY), though given the prices and the state of the infrastructure combined with the interest rates, it's not too surprising. For sure but the EV market will continue to grow over...

    Camping / Overland Ideas

Sure though depending on the situation and how much fuel one has on hand that may or may not be as convenient/useful. Considering people are already switching to EVs despite the less developed infrastructure and the large disparity in R&D on the vehicle side versus internal combustion over the...

    Camping / Overland Ideas

Hopefully it would be designed to do a “handshake” to confirm proper connection before it enables the main contacts, same reason why one can safely plug in a fast charger while its raining. Having solar to charge the main battery and power stuff is useful whether overlanding alone or with many...

    Camping / Overland Ideas

➕ As I suggested in a previous thread, its a potential accessory that could change a real or perceived weakness of EVs in regards to overlanding into a strength... should price allow. Imo.

    What If?

Yes the setup in this video will cost more energy than it can generate because it is on the roof subjecting the vehicle to much more air resistance than the vehicle would otherwise face without the fan. Whereas the engineer in the video posted earlier positioned and sized the fan blades such...
